MEZZANINE was formed in 1994 specifically designed as an opening band for Larynx Zillion's Novelty Shop. The band did its best from there to ride on the coattails of the Neo-Retro Lounge movement at that time. Mezzanine in fact did not gig past Ann Arbor’s Gypsy Café however, eventually dissolving by 1997 along with the demise of The Novelty Shop. Note: Mezzanine as a fully formed band only recorded two songs in the studio, found here on their CD Single 'Kiss Me, Please Kiss Me (please kiss me, please?)' b/w 'By Invitation Only'.

Laurence (a.k.a.'Yours Truly') continued on writing & recording his slap-sappy mock-shlock parody material in his 8-track home studio for several years.

By the turn of the millennium, he released the 1st version of MEZZANINE ‘That Lonely Half-Floor In-Between’ on a small run of cassettes. This updated 2021 version has many of the same songs but is considered in ways superior to the original mix.
